When Neil was a child, he attended an air show with his father and was fascinated by the planes he saw there. This would affect his life for the rest of his life. He learned to fly before he got his driving license! He began his career as a pilot in the US Navy, but then joined NASA and was soon invited to lead the first mission to the moon. In 1969, he wrote his name in the history books when he became the first person to set foot on its surface.
